Several of my paintings incorporate Celtic knots, sometimes called endless patterns, a design in various forms that are also found in ancient Syrian and Coptic manuscripts.

The knot in this painting, together with the square frame, forms a mandala. The mandala, as understood by Carl Jung is an expression of the archetype of wholeness. It is visualization that invites us to experience our personal wholeness within the embracing support of the earth and cosmos in its visible and non-visible dimensions. It is said that symbols, such as the mandala, are the most basic way a person can grasp something not fully consciously known. Instead of the perspective of the ego that too often sees only our separation from things and others, we are invited to embrace our belonging to the visible and non-visible dimensions of the earth and universe. We are already at home within the pervading Light. It is cause for great celebration that western humanity is awakening once again to the depth of its belonging to the earth and the ongoing creative story.
